The ministry of economy: We have reopened the first three mines out of the 530 closed down

The ministry of economy Niculae Badalau announced on Wednesday in a conference, that they reopened three mines in the Jolotca area, Harghita county.

‘I want to announce for the first time that we have reopened the first three mines out of the 530 closed down in the mining area Jolotca, Harghita county, mines which are in radioactive Magurele under the coordination of the ministry of economy. We are talking about the first three mines re-opened, after 1989. These mines have rare materials which could bring us in the alliance of batteries in a very good area. We have europium, extremely rare material which is used for semi-conductors and especially for the cooling system of batteries. These rare materials will place us on the map of the world as happened with IT, which some would like to take back to its beginning. In a year, I promise we will reopen all the mines’ Badalau said.

According to the minister, one of the projects of the ministry which he leads is ‘ to have a project company between CupruMIn and MoldoMin’.

‘Romania stays on 400 tons of gold, and I am not talking about Rosia Montana, on 2,800 tons of silver and some tens of thousand of tons of copper. CupruMin and MoldoMin represents the third source of copper in Europe. Similarly, Romania has such materials as graphite and cobalt  which does not exist in Europe, and outside some countries nobody else has. Extremely rare materials for which, only this year, we had 27 authorisations for prospecting. We don’t have metallurgy without restarting all these mines. Our project as a minister is to make a project company between CupruMin and MoldoMin. MoldoMin has been in liquidation since 2013 and I don’t want to accuse anybody, but somebody wanted to block all this. The only mine in the country which is exploitable at present is CupruMin which exports the gross material to China. There is valuable ore which we want to place on the map and on this basis to start the new syderurgie. We have Galati which is still working and its sale will be finalized in a few days with all environment conditions. We have Targoviste. The syderurgie works at half capacity’ Niculae Badalau says.

The officials in the Romanian government, MPs, representatives of public administration, central and local, and the companies with activity of construction take part on Wednesday to the first edition of the conference ‘ Upgrade Romania- the Big investment projects of 2019’.
