The Ministry of economy: the extension of the nuclear station in Cernavoda should be done together with companies from the NATO member countries of from the EU
The minister of economy Virgil Popescu restates his opinion according to which the extension of the nuclear power station in Cernavoda should be done together with companies from NATO or EU member countries, saying that Nuclearelectrica does not have the capacity to build a nuclear reactor, on its own, having in mind the idea that the state has a policy which includes the non –collection of dividends from the company, as it happened last year.
The minister of economy says that the project regarding reactor 3 and 4 of the Nuclear Power station Cernavoda ‘ in a standstill’ and he would prefer to have it developed in collaboration with companies from countries considered to be strategic partners of Romania and not with companies from China.
Virgil Popescu has launched the idea that Nuclearelectrica would be capable to build a nuclear reactor on its own for the power station in Cernavoda. ‘I am very optimistic that reactor 3 and 4 will be built and, why not, the fifth reactor, but I think that Nuclearelectrica, if the state has a policy for dividends very correct against Nuclearelectrica – and this year it showed it, as we had no dividends from Nuclearlectrica – they may build a reactor themselves.
So, even this scenario is taken into consideration. They can build a reactor themselves as they need nobody, they have the know how, the technology, the Canadians can come to Nuclearelectrica a? they have the know-how for CANDU ( a type of reactor developed by Canadian companies, which are considered very safe-n.r) He also mentioned that in 2026 the unit I of Cernavoda should be stopped and re-technologized.
