The gas in the Black Sea, energetic efficiency and the nuclear programme should be the priorities of Romania
The exploitation of gas in the Black Sea, the growth of energetic efficiency and the continuation of the nuclear programme of the country are among the priorities which should be found in the governing programmes of the political parties for the next years, consider most experts in the energy sector, who took part in the debate ‘The energy in the elections’ which happened on Wednesday.
Organised by Asociatia Energia Inteligenta (Smart Energy Association), the project proposed to analyse the chapters on energy in the Governing Programmes which different political bodies propose to the Romanians for the elections of 2020.
‘Energy independence of Romania is the principle we found in two of the five analysed programmes, which practically promotes the idea that Romania should become energy independent. But it is hard, if not impossible to put into practice, as we are part of the EU,where there is free exchange of goods. Such an approach takes us out of the European philosophy, which we are part of, and which we accepted’ said Dumitru Chisalita, expert in the gas sector and chairman of the Asociatia Energia Inteligenta.
According to him, extraction of gas in the Black Sea is essential for Romania so that Romania should not become even more dependent on imports. He showed that, at nine months, gas import would mean 19% of the consumption, and at the end of the year it will be 17%.
‘This deficit will increase significantly without the gas in the Black Sea or without other types of energy resources. The onshore decline is important, it will determine the reduction of domestic production, which will throw us in the arms of the gas imports. We must attack the offshore and onshore resources ‘the specialist appreciates.
Another specialist in the energy sector which participated in the project, Calin Vilt, showed the importance that Romania continues its nuclear programme.
‘Works with reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavoda started in the 80’s. They remained the oldest nuclear projects in the world. We hope to resume this investment as we see examples in the UK, Finland, the Emirates where workplaces are created and it is a clean energy, from the perspective of the Agreement in Paris. At present the third generation is in use, until the apparition of the fourth generation, so that we can welcome transport moving from hydrocarbs to hydrogen’ Vilt appreciated.
Andrei Ceclan, expert in energy efficiency, showed that the development of this energy component is very important in the context where there are many European funds dedicated to energy efficiency. He showed that in public buildings there is high inefficiency and reduced comfort for the people.
