The Competition Council started an investigation regarding the possible rigging of bids organized by the Oltenia Energy Unit

The Competition Council announced on Wednesday that they started an investigation regarding a possible rigging of the bids organized by the Oltenia Energy Unit.

‘The Competition Council started an investigation regarding a possible rigging of some bids organized by the Oltenia Energy Unit for the acquisition of rolls and skates for conveyor belts for coal’ the press release says.,

The authority suspects that the companies Upipsa, Axa Company, Uzina Rominex, Uzitmet Industry, Prelmet and Grupul Repara?ii Industriale ?i Montaj Excavatoare X agreed to share the contracts signed on the occasion of the participation in association to the procedure of public acquisition with the purpose of eliminating the competition.

‘During the investigation started as a result of the notification made by the Oltenia Energy Unit, the competition council made unannounced inspections to the headquarters of the companies, the documents being under analysis by the competition authority, during the specific procedure of investigation’ the press release says.

The unannounced inspections are authorized by the Court of Appeal Bucharest and are justified by the necessity of getting the information and necessary documents for the clarification of the possible practice of anti-corruption under analysis.

‘Unauthorised inspections represent an important stage in the procedure of investigation of a possible anti-competititve behaviour, without being a pre-decision as regards the guilt of the companies’ the press release says.

The law of competition forbids the association of companies with a view to limiting competition during procedures of public acquisition.
