State energy company in Romania prepares for acquisition in region
A state energy company in Romania will make, by this year's end, an acquisition in the region, Minister-Delegate for Energy Razvan Nicolescu told on Wednesday the Bucharest Forum Energy.
'I hope that by end of the year we will be in a situation where, for the first time, a state company in Romania will make an acquisition in the region. It is a promise, an objective, and if it is not met, remind me about it at year's end,' said Nicolescu.
He declined to name the company or what it aims to buy abroad, only saying that it is an energy company.
'It is time for the EU to learn the Nabucco lesson and act more integrated and coherently. We have a list of over 250 projects, but we must decide on 10-15-20 priorities,' Nicolescu underscored within the event.
In turn, the commercial attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, Duane Butcher, present in the forum, said that Romania is one of the main energy producers in the region and it can be an alternative supplier to its neighbours. We no longer have to talk about what we can do for Romania, but what we can do together, added Butcher.
The Aspen Institute Romania, in partnership with Romania' Government and the Department of Energy, is organizing on Wednesday and on Thursday, at the Parliament Palace, the second edition of the Bucharest Forum Energy, with the participants debating solutions to increase energy security and for development in the energy sector, in the current European and international context.
