Rompetrol largest exporter of oil products in 2012
The Rompetrol Group has been designated by the National Association of Romanian Exporters and Importers (ANEIR) Romania's largest exporter of oil products in 2012, with a total volume of sales on foreign markets in excess of USD 1.7 billion, according to a company's release.
'This year has been very important for us, we have managed, under the current economic conditions, to complete successfully the upgrading of Petromidia Refinery and to increase its capacity from 3.5 million to 5 million tonnes per year. This project represents a key phase in the development strategy of the Rompetrol Group. In the next period, our goal is to expand into the Black Sea region and the Mediterranean countries. The growth of production and the sales of fuels will bring an increase by 15-20 percent in exports and implicitly an increase in the market share of our products in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova,' said Rompetrol's First Vice President, Azamat Zhangulov.
The ANEIR's classification numbers 1,000 companies, out of a total of 17,044 exporting companies, and the Rompetrol Group is present in the rankings with three companies - Rompetrol Refining (the 3rd position), Rompetrol Petrochemicals (the 69th place) and Rompetrol Gas (the 111st position).
The total value of exports recorded by Rompetrol Refining (Petromidia and Vega refineries, Rompetrol Petrochemicals and Rompetrol Gas) from January to September 2012 amounted to approximately USD 1.3 billion. The company's fuel sales during the January-September 2012 period stood at over 2 million tonnes, with 46 percent of the fuels sold having been exported to the Group's companies (Rompetrol Moldova, Rompetrol Bulgaria, Rompetrol Ukraine, Rompetrol Georgia) and to other traditional partners in Central and Eastern Europe (Turkey, Serbia and Greece).
Rompetrol Petrochemicals, the only domestic producer of polymers (polyethylene and polypropylene), exports petrochemicals, mainly LDPE and PP, to Ukraine, Bulgaria, Austria, Turkey, and Greece. At the same time, Vega Refinery is the only producer of n-hexane in Eastern Europe, which is used in the production of polypropylene and extraction of vegetable oils in the food industry, eco-friendly solvents and special bitumen.
Rompetrol Refining's contribution to Romania's state budget amounted, in the first nine months of the year, to over USD 907 million. The company's total contribution to the state budget in 2012 is estimated to exceed USD 1.2 billion, according to the company.
The Rompetrol Group is owned entirely by Kazakhstan's national oil and natural gas company - KazMunayGas (KMG) and has activities in 12 countries, with most assets and operations in France, Romania, Spain and South-East Europe. In the fuel distribution segment, the Group currently operates over 1,000 fueling points in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, Georgia, France, Spain and Ukraine. The company plans to expand into new markets, such as Turkey and Ukraine, in the future.
