Romania imported in January 2017 a 281,200 toe (tonne oil equivalent) natural gas soaring by 271.5 percent (205,500 toe) higher than the amount imported in the similar month of 2016, read the data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The domestic natural gas production roughly totalled in January 2017 as many as 742,000 toe, by 1,200 toe (0.2 percent) higher than in January 2016.
According to the Energy Strategy of Romania published on the relevant ministry's website, the annual gas production is expected to decrease slowly, up to an average of 9-10 billion cubic metres for 2016 - 2030.
The document mentions that the natural gas production will drop after reaching a new 132 TWh peak in 2025, as a result of the gas production from the Black Sea, to 96 TWh in 2030 and 65 TWh in 2050. The small price scenarios forecast a decrease to zero of the natural gas production starting with 2045.
