Romania imported 962 million cu.m of gas from Gasprom in 2020
Gasprom group exported to Romania 962 million cu.m of natural gas last year, on the drop by 3.2% against 994 million cu.m in 2019, according to data released by Gasprom on Monday.
According to those data, Romania is Gasprom's one of the smallest clients, while Hungary imported from Gasprom 8.637 cu.m of natural gas, Moldova 3.04 billion cu.m, Bulgaria 2.28 cu.m and Serbia 1.346 cu.m.
Practically, the only states in Central and Eastern Europe which have natural gas imports from Gasprom lower than Romania are: Lithuania, Slovenia, Estonia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Northern Macedonia.
On the overall, Gasprom exports in Europe dropped by 12.1% in 2020 to 174.97 billion cubic meters, when prices and demand in energy industry were affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The main Gasprom European customer was Germany, where imports dropped by 14.3% in 2020, to 45.8 billion cu.m. The next two important Gasprom markets are Italy and Belarus, for which exports of the Russian gas group recorded drops of 5.9% and 7.4%.
In the case of other European markets, Gasprom exports recorded mixed revolutions with high increases in countries like Slovakia (34.6%), Greece (25.1%) and Denmark (10.5%) and important drops in Great Britain (- 41.6%), Czech Republic (-34.5%), Serbia (-37%), Croatia (-34.8%), Finland (-34.5%) and Hungary (-17.9%).
Gasprom, the first world natural gas producer, ensures a third of the natural gas need in Europe. The Russian group supplies Europe with natural gas through three main routes: Ukraine pipes, Yamal-Europe route, via Belarus and Poland, as well as North Stream pipe between Russia and Germany, via the Baltic Sea.
Romanian companies do not have import contracts concludes directly with Gasprom, but with two intermediate companies – Imex Oil, a subsidiary of the Russian group Conef and WIEE, a joint venture between Gasprom and the Russian company Wintershall.
