Nita: There are important gas discoveries in the Black Sea in other perimeters, too

The Department for Energy will focus on exploiting the resources in the Black Sea, where important gas reserves have been discovered, Minister Delegate for Energy Constantin Nita told a specialist press conference on Tuesday.

'From a strategic point of view, the Department for Energy will focus on the Black Sea. Important natural gas reserves have been discovered there and we have the duty to seriously work on this. We have data that other perimeters, too, have natural gas [besides Neptun perimeter, where Petrom announced possible discoveries]. It is good to support exploration and exploitation,' the Minister said.

Last year, Petrom and ExxonMobil, which explore in partnership Neptun great-depth perimeter in the Black Sea, announced the discovery of some possible natural gas deposits, which could reach 84 billion cubic metres, namely the equivalent of the domestic consumption for six months.

Other companies, too, such as Lukoil, Petroceltic International, Petromar Resources, Sterling Resources or Romgaz, participate in exploration works of the perimeters in the Romanian Black Sea.
