Minister Virgil Popescu: reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavoda must be built with partners from the EU and NATO
The minister of economy Virgil Popescu stated when referring to the evolutions regarding the building of reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavoda that we have spent too much time in a so-called agreement with a Chinese company and they must be made with partners from the EU and NATO.
‘When referring to reactors 3 and 4 for one year, and even more I keep tellin what we have realised today: practically, we have spent too much- seven years – in a so-called collaboration with a Chinese company and I think that reactors 3 and must be built, must both of them be built with partners from the EU and NATO. I think that two months ago I have summoned the General Assembly of the Shareholders with Nuclear Electrica through which we denounced the agreement with the Chinese company and at present the Board of Nuclear Electrica is working on a new strategy and you will see where we get. I wish reactors 3 and 4 to be built with partners from the EU and NATO’ , Virgil Popescu stated when asked on Thursday in Eforie if the two reactors will be built with Chinese investors or with other partners.
The minister of economy said when asked about the Offshore law if EXXON, OMV or Lukoil will start projects or if there is need for amendments in the parliament to the law. ‘When referring to the Offshore law, the same thing I say: if there is need for amendment to the offshore law, they must be done in the parliament, and as you see at present the parliament is as it is, changing the ordnances of the government, a overpopulist parliament, a parliament which is against the interests of the Romanians’, Popescu said.
He added that an amendment to the offshore law may be under discussion after 6th December when the new parliament is elected. ‘We cannot talk about legislative changes of such importance with the present parliament. After 6th December, obviously, when we may talk, the situation will be different. If we are talking about the Neptun Deep resource, if the Americans from EXXON want to leave, I wish Romgaz, the national company of the Romanian state get in a consortium of exploitation and there is already a consortium made up with a Polish company for oil and gas and OMV Petrom’ said Virgil Popescu.
The minister of economy took part, together with premier Ludovic Orban and minister of environment Costel Alexe at the presentation of the programme of sanding of the Touristic Coast Area, financed with European Funds, event which took place on Thursday in Eforie.
