Minister Gerea: Reduction of the black holes found at the energy complexes, a priority objective

The reduction of the black holes found at the energy complexes, generated not only by the bad management, but also by the dubious contracts sealed in the detriment of the state companies is a priority objective, Energy Minister Andrei Gerea said on Thursday said in Targu Jiu.

"Obviously, restructuring, investments will be needed for the mines to observe the environment and security standards and at least a minimum level of profitability. It is what we attempt to do both at the Oltenia Energy Complex and at the Hunedoara one," said Gerea.

The minister is paying a two-day working visit on July 23 -24 to the Oltenia Energy Complex in the context of the urgent implementation of the restructuring plans, so that the complex becomes profitable and competitive on the energy market.

"We came here to talk and decide together a strategy for the Oltenia Energy Complex that we would observe. We understand how important is the industry and the sector of coal electricity production. We're having talks with the European Commission and we try to convince the people there to accept better conditions for coal. We hope to obtain another approach because, from our point of view, it is clearly about energy security, and the coal's role could not be questioned," Gerea underlined at the Motru Quarry Exploitation.

"The current situation requires the necessity to ensure a balanced energy mix, which is why we have insisted on finding some solutions to maintaining activity in the mining areas. The hydro electricity production has significantly decreased lately. The flow of the Danube and of the countrywide rivers is on a downtrend, we are registering a drop of the wind electricity production too. According to the National Forecaster (ANM), this period with poor precipitations and without wind could last. In this context, we have left the nuclear and the coal electricity. (...) In such moments, I believe everybody understands the importance of the coal, not only to our country, but also to this specific area of Europe," the Energy minister mentioned.
