MECMA aims to connect national electricity market to European market by the end of 2014
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Milieu (MECMA) targets a memorandum to connect the national electricity market to the European electricity market by the end of 2014, said Alexandru Sandulescu, director within MECMA, on Wednesday during a thematic conference.
'A European council set late 2014 as target, somewhere in the spring of last year, to integrate all the national electricity markets in the European Union. ... If we take a look around Romania, we can see that three countries, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, have already connected their markets. We prepare a memorandum at the ministry together with the National Energy Regulatory Authority to forward to the Government for approval, a memorandum to connect Romania to this area. Basically, we take the first step towards Romania's integration in that single European market whose deadline is the end of 2014,' said Sandulescu.
According to him, this memo was elaborated with the help of Transelectrica and OPCOM, the companies which are directly involved in this process of connecting the markets.
