MAE: Interconnection of energy system between Romania and Rep. of Moldova, discussed by Bogdan Aurescu in Chisinau
Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu met, on Thursday, in Chisinau, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Popov, the two officials paying special attention, in their talks, to the projects of interconnection of the energy systems of the two countries, with a major impact on a concrete connection of the neighboring country to the European grids infrastructure.
According to a press release issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE), Bogdan Aurescu underlined the excellent level of a privileged relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as reflected by the dynamics of political and diplomatic dialogue, as well as by the economic cooperation, including in the energy field.
Aurescu and Popov highlighted the interest in deepening bilateral cooperation, by giving an impetus to the dialogue at sectoral level and implementation of specific projects in areas as diverse as possible, in order to achieve the common strategic objective: Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union (EU).
Consultations also entailed an overview of the main folders on the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova, focusing on developments made in negotiations on the Association Agreement to the EU and the Agreement on creation of a Comprehensive and In-depth Free Trade Area with the EU, liberalization of the EU - Republic of Moldova visa regime, as well as progress on other components of the relationship between Chisinau and Brussels.
Deputy Minister Andrei Popov addressed thanks for the steady support given by Romania in the complex process of EU accession, MAE stressed.
The two officials had an exchange of views on the regional context, as well as the Transnistrian file.
During the visit to the Republic of Moldova, State Secretary Bogdan Aurescu attended the inauguration of the water supply system in Rosu locality, Cahul district, a project fully funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania from the assistance for development budget.
'This project, which will contribute visibly, starting today, to an improved daily life of Rosu commune inhabitants, is only another example of Romania's tangible and steady support, in this case via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, given to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, to rising their living standards to European level. An increasing number of concrete projects are carried out between the two sides of the Prut river, be it the construction of power lines and gas pipes, scholarships, emergency medical care or interpersonal contacts. All are designed to bind more closely the Republic of Moldova to the European space, its values and its standards', Bogdan Aurescu added.
