Just Transition toward a green economic model in Romania and Central and Eastern Europe
* 10th October 2019, 18.00-20.00, TechHub Bucharest, Nicolae Filipescu street, no. 39-41
The transition to a net zero economy in Europe is no longer a mere possibility: it is bound to happen if we want to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. The choice societies are facing is whether they remain reactive, risking disruptive changes, or whether they proactively shape the transition. Limiting global heating to 1.5 degrees will require rapid and deep decarbonisation of the global economy.
Romania, as well as the entire region must engage in an active transition towards a green economic model. The process provides large opportunities, but also comes with significant social and economic challenges for affected communities.
Against this background, FES organises the public debate Just Transition toward a green economic model in Romania and CEE. Our guest speaker, Ada Amon, will discuss on how to combine the imperative of social justice with the process of greening the economy, by avoiding that the most vulnerable categories pay the cost of such a transition. How can we make it truly just and fair, what are the specific challenges for Romania, how to develop the process of laying down a strategy are amongst the issues that will be addressed during our debate.
Ada Amon is a senior associate of E3G – Third Generation Environmentalism since June 2015.
In the past she worked as a consultant for the London-based International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) and as the energy coordinator of CEE Bankwatch. She was listed on the most influential Hungarian women in 2015 by Forbes (public figure section) and also listed as brave woman among the top 5 by WMN.hu.
The languages of the conference are Romanian and English, with simultaneous translation.
