Interministerial Coal Committee established under coordination of Economy Minister
The Interministerial Coal Committee was created and talks with the European Commission will start, including on the decarbonization law, for a new correlation required by the current security context, announced Energy Minister Virgil Popescu.
"At the end of June we adopted the Emergency Ordinance on the decarbonization of the energy sector, a milestone under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, considering that the phased elimination of lignite and coal-fired power plants is a reform element of Component C6 Energy, of NRRP Pillar I Green Transition. According to the provisions of the OUG, by the Prime Minister's Decision No. 435/23.08.2022, the Interministerial Coal Committee was established, a body mainly tasked with coordinating the implementation of the energy sector's decarbonization process according to the commitments pledged under NRRP, Reform 1, Component 6. As we also informed on Thursday, we will start discussions with the EC, including on the decarbonization law, for a new correlation required in the current security context," the Minister wrote on Facebook on Friday.
The coordination of the committee is ensured by the Minister of Economy as chair, assisted by two vice-chairs, specifically the Finance Minister and the Minister of European Investments and Projects.
The decision regarding the establishment of the Interministerial Coal Committee was published in the Official Journal of August 23.
