Greenpeace Romania requires the ministry of energy real consultations for the plan for energy and climate 2021-2030
The National Integrated plan in the domain of energy and climate changes 2021 – 2030 (PNIESC) does not present a concrete schedule for the elimination of the production on coal and does not approach the complicated situation of the mono-industrial communities which depend on the manufacture of fossil fuels – say the representatives of the organization Greenpeace Romania.
‘With a ministry of energy without a minister, Romania ignores the climate crisis. Greenpeace Romania requires the ministry of energy real consultations for the energy and climate plan 2021 – 2030. The National Integrated plan in the domain of energy and climate change 2021 – 2030 (PNIESC) is the document which defines the way in which Romania will act in the domain of the energy in the next decade, in the context of a climatic global crisis. The ministry of energy does not have a schedule for public consultations], although they are legally bound to do it. At the level of draft, the plan for energy and climate 2021 – 2030 must be sent in its final format to the European Commission until the end of the year, after domestic consultations. The European forum issued a set of recommendations which sanction the lack of ambition and consistency of the plan. The present draft does not present a concrete schedule for the elimination of the production of coal and does not approach the complicated situation of the mono-industrial communities which depend on the manufacture of fossil fuels. The delay of this action reduces the chances of these communities (Valea Jiului, bazinul Olteniei) to find alternative solutions for development by using European money’ inform the environment activists, in a press release on Wednesday.
According to the quoted source, the current draft limits the renewable energy target in the energy mix at 27l9% for 2030, although the European Commission recommends a contribution of at least 34%.
The European Commission recommended Romania, on 18 June 2019 to increase up to at least 34% the target regarding the share of renewable energy in the final consumption of energy representing the contribution of Romania when meeting the objectives of the Union at the horizon of 2030, as the evaluation report of the draft of the National Integrated Plan for energy and climatic changes.
The document includes the fact that the national target proposed by Romania for 2030 for renewable energy is 27.9%.
