Gov’t passes agreement with Moldova on gas, power grid interconnection
The Romanian Government on Wednesday passed an agreement concluded on May 21 with the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the achievement of projects for the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity grids of the two countries, Agerpres informs.
“In the area of natural gas, the parties agreed to prioritise works for the Iasi — Ungheni interconnection, namely the Ungheni — Iasi pipeline on Moldova’s soil and the Onesti — Iasi pipeline on Romania’s soil, with the related compression stations. The deadline for achieving these objectives was set at end-2016,” the Romanian Government reports.
As far as electricity is concerned, priorities under the same agreement are the Isaccea — Vulcanesti interconnection, the Vulcanesti — Chisinau power line, and the related back-to-back power station, the Ungheni — Straseni project and the back-to-back power plants, as well as the Suceava — Balti project.
“The deadline for the completion of the two interconnections are 2016 and late 2018, respectively. In addition, the parties agreed as strategic objectives of national importance both the Ungheni — Chisinau gas pipeline, and the power interconnection Isaccea — Vulcanesti — Chisinau and the related back-to-back station”.
On the other hand, the Wednesday’s decision updates the composition of the energy working group of the Moldova-Romania Inter-governmental Committee by including representatives of the national governments of the two countries.
Also on Wednesday, the Romanian Government passed a memorandum extending from four to eight years the Romanian Government’s providing 100 million euros to the Government of Moldova in non-returnable assistance, to March 28, 2019. The validity of the assistance agreement between the two national governments was also extended from six to ten years, namely to March 28, 2021.
The agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova concerning the implementation of technical and financial assistance under a non-returnable loan worth 100 million euro granted by Romania to Moldova was signed in 2010.
