Romania's Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean and Turkmen ambassador in Bucharest Shokrat Jumaev on Tuesday discussed energy cooperation and political dialogue between Romania and Turkmenistan at a meeting in Bucharest, Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) reports.

'Talks focused on the bilateral political dialogue, dialogue and cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, economic cooperation, with emphasis on sectorial projects, energy, educational and cultural cooperation,' MAE reports.

The two officials also exchanged opinions on mutual support for the candidacies of the two countries to international organisations.

Corlatean mentioned the outcomes of the 4th session of the Romanian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation and the Working Group on Energy held August 27-29 in Bucharest, saying they are able to sustain the expansion and deepening of economic relations in the energy field and help materialise economic projects.

In relation to the shared interest in developing cooperation in the energy field, details were discussed of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) 'Energy Security and Sustainability - the OSCE Perspective,' to be hosted by Ashgabat, October 17-18.

Corlatean and Jumaev also reviewed the latest developments in the unfolding of a Caspian Sea - Black Sea freight transport project to capitalise on Romania's position as a gateway to the European markets for goods coming from Central Asia, including through the junction with the Danube River.

Corlatean underscored the importance of cooperation between the ports of Constanta and Turkmenbashi that could facilitate access of Turkmenistan's energy resources to Europe and the success of regional cooperation projects in this field.
