Final mining product of exploitations at Rosia Montana - 17 pct gold and 83 pct silver

The final mining product to result after the exploitation of the gold-silver deposits from Rosia Montana (western Romania) will contain 17 percent gold and 83 percent silver, according to the legislation and the agreement made with the investor, Gheorghe Dutu, the head of the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) told the special committee on the Rosia Montana on Tuesday.

'The risks to the environment are presented in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the Rosia Montana project and there exists also a development plan observing the legal parameters. The technology that is being currently used (based on cyanide, editor's note) in extracting gold and silver from underground deposits is state-of-the-art technology. In the moment when a new chemical element that can be exploited appears, it will be immediately quantified and we will have the possibility to listed it in an additional act to be included in the licence, so that this new element to be also capitalized. Obviously, with the royalties to be reconsidered too [...] The final mining product, in compliance with the legislation and the agreement concluded with the company, is a product that will contain 17 percent gold and 83 percent silver. This is the final product to be presented by the company', Dutu said.

He also added that, upon the request of the special committee for Rosia Montanta, ANRM will made available the exploitation licence, as well as the fact that the investors will also be able to exploit other chemical elements, besides the gold and the silver, if such elements happen to be discovered.

'Rosia Montana Gold Corporation will exploit other chemical elements than the gold and the silver too, if they are discovered in the meantime, based on a new license to be issued. The exploitation license of the project can be shown to the special committee following a simple request on your behalf', said the ANRM head.

The MPs of the special committee for Rosia Montana gathered on Tuesday to discuss the investment the Canadians of Rosia Montana Gold Corporation (RMGC) want to conduct in a gold extraction project.

Starting on Wednesday, for two days, the committee members will go to Rosia Montana, where they will have talks with representatives of miners, of Rosia Montana Gold Corporation, of NGOs and of the local authorities.

The parliamentarians will have to conclude the report on the mining exploitation by October 20, with the Senate being the first notified Chamber.

The Government on August 27, 2013, adopted the draft law referring to Rosia Montana.
