Final electricity consumption in the first two months of the year, up 5.8 percent

Romania's final electricity consumption in the first two months of the year amounted to 9.3 TWh, up 5.8 percent from the same period of the year before, shows data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

Public lighting consumption decreased by 6.6 percent and the consumption of the population advanced 1 percent. Electricity exports stood at 1.5 TWh, down by 158.3 million KWh. The power loss in networks and transformer stations was 1.3 TWh, by 64 million KWh less y-o-y. 

During this period, electricity resources totaled 12.2 TWh, up by 293 million KWh (+ 2.4 percent) compared to the corresponding period of 2015. 

The production of thermal power plants reached 5.2 TWh, by 362 million KWh (+ 7.4 percent) higher compared to the same period last year. The electricity production of hydropower plants dropped to 2.6 TWh, 488 million kWh (-15.4 percent) less from the year before, while the Cernavoda nuclear power plant produced 2 TWh, up by 8 million KWh (0.4 percent) from the reference period. 

The production of wind farms in the first two months of the year totaled 1.4 TWh, up by 210 million kWh compared to the same period last year, photovoltaic energy produced in this period was 168 million KWh, up by 33 million KWh compared to the same period of 2015. 

In the reporting period, primary energy resources increased by 1.6 percent and electricity resources increased 2.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. 

The main primary energy resources totaled 5.4 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), up by 85.500 toe versus the previous year. Domestic production totaled 3.7 million toe, down by 28,800 toe from the same period last year, while the import was 1.7 million toe.
