Energy production from renewable sources may grow by 60 pct this year

Romania's electrical energy production from renewable sources may climb this year to 9-10 TWh compared to last year's 6.3 TWh said on Monday Emil Calota, vice president of the National Authority for Energy Regulation (ANRE) on the occasion of the presentation in Parliament of the Rapport regarding established prices and tariffs in 2013, written by the ANRE.

'Last year, the energy produced from renewable sources was 6.3 TWh and that figure could grow to 9-10 TWh of green energy in Romania in 2014', said the ANRE official.

He recalled that Romania has fulfilled its goal assumed in front of the European Commission this year that 24 percent of the energy consumption in 2020 be from renewable resources, therewith in 2014 the yearly mandatory quotas will be reduced in 2014.

The Ministry of Economy's Department of Energy has launched a public debate last week on a Governmental Decision project that envisaged reducing the quota from 15 percent to 11.1 percent in 2014.

'Given the achievement level of the 2020 objective, the possibility to reconsider the annual energy quota has been created, which is what is happening since the beginning of 2014. The quote will be reduced from 15 percent due to reasons of affordability from end-consumers, both industrial and household consumers, as well as for the sustainability of the system, given the need for balance in the energy sector', said Calota.

He added that 2014 is the year in which the green certificate market will mature along with the renewable sources energy market.
