E.ON and Engie propose to establish a new calendar for the deregulation of the gas prices for the population
The main suppliers of gas for the population E.ON Romania and Engie Romania propose to the authorities to establish a new calendar for the deregulation of the prices of gas for the population in parallel to the implementation of a system of protection of vulnerable users according to the representatives of the two energy companies
This is in the context where, according to OUG 114/2018 starting with 1 April, the price of gas for domestic production will be limited top 68 lei/MWh for a period of three years.
‘The question is what is going to happen after the OUG is no longer applied. Now the price is 68 lei/MWh. How could we get overnight from 68 lei to 130-140 lei or to what the price will be then? It is a problem for us. We proposed to try to have a bridge between the price now and that of the market’ Eric Stab, the general manager of Engie Romania said on Wednesday in a conference on issues in the domain.
Stab said that, on the stock exchange, the price of gas reached 115-125 lei at the end of last year, and if the measure of limitation was not taken the regulated price for the population would increase by 25%. This happened when last year the Authority for the regulation in energy (ANRE) had already operated three increases, with a total of 22%. His opinion was supported by the manager of the corporate governance of E.ON Romania Anca Dragu present at the event.
‘The deregualation of the market must come with the protection of vulnerabilities. Financing sources must be found and the mechanism must be simple and functional’ , she said.
According to Dragu, the present system where all household users are protected favour the rich, those with big houses and who consume much gas, but pay at the same price as the ones with little income. She showed that she agrees with a new calendar for the deregulation of the prices for household users.
