Development of new transmission corridor for Black Sea gas discussed with Commissioner Oettinger
The development of a new gas transmission corridor for the gas from the Black Sea, through Romania, was on the agenda of the talks held on Thursday in Brussels by Transgaz and Transelectrica representatives with the European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger, his spokesperson Sabine Berger stated.
The European Commissioner for Energy [Gunther] Oettinger met a delegation of Romania's Transgaz and Transelectrica last Thursday. One item on the agenda was the development of gas and electricity networks in Romania and the issue of backhauling at the interconnection points between Romania and Bulgaria on one hand, and Romania and Hungary on the other hand, she declared.
According to this source, the backhaul or 'reverse flow' means that a pipeline is technically capable of transmitting gas in both directions, not just in one, which increases the supply safety.
Furthermore, the development of a new transmission corridor for the gas from Black Sea through Romania was discussed, Berger added.
On this occasion, Commissioner Oettinger and the representatives of Transgaz and Transelectrica also discussed the modernization and development of electricity networks in Romania and its neighbouring countries.
At this productive meeting, the Romanian companies restated their commitment for the advance of Romania's integration into the EU energy market, the spokesperson concluded.
