Competition Council investigations last too long while energy market evolves rapidly

Investigations in the energy sector made by the Competition Council last too long, while the market evolves rapidly, Silvia Vlasceanu, the executive manager of the Association of Utility Energy Companies (ACUE) declared on Thursday at PRIA Competition conference.

“The energy sector is the most organized in this country at present. But it has an accelerated dynamics. For instance, 25 years ago there was no talk about energy renewable sources and now we speak about saving energy. Consumers will also be producers and will spend less in the system, while buildings must have energy consumption close to zero,” Vlasceanu said.

He recommended representatives of the Competition Council to speed up investigations in that sector.

For instance, the case in which Hidroelectrica and the so-called Wise guys from energy were fined has in view facts that happened between 2004 and 2008 but the investigation ended in 2015. These investigations last too long to be completed while the market evolves and could undergo huge changes. This is a recommendation. Maybe more speed could held everybody and would give more credibility to the Competition Council,” said the ACUE representative.

Silvia Vlasceanu participated on Thursday in PRIA Competition which debated legislative news about competition and case studies and analyses of the most important past competition investigations.

The Conference organized by PRIA Events, represents the most important event devoted to competition and gathers representatives of the Competition Council and other state authorities, representatives of chambers of trade and embassies, representatives in the energy, retail, telecommunications, banking sectors and the pharmaceutical market.
