Competition Council fines 10 companies in natural gas field

The Competition Council has fined ten companies in the natural gas field with fines of 920,000 lei (207,690 euros) for deals which established lower prices for standard use installations, the competition authority announced in a press release. The list of companies fined included a natural gas distributor and nine companies executing works in the natural gas field, the biggest sanction of 788,017 lei being applied to Wirom Gas.

According to the source, nine other companies ere fined: Miral Instal Company (30,051 lei), Instpro (31,680 lei), Elisan (20,943 lei), Dornacor (17,650 lei), Rodimar I Eximp (12,488 lei), TMG conprest (5,498 lei), Melprest (3,534 lei), Metalica Prod (1,029 lei) and Meliorstak (499 lei).

“Contracts between the gas distributor and companies executing works included anti-competition clauses by which a fixed price for installations . So consumers paid an unjustified higher price than the one used before the deal,”said Bogdan Chiritoiu, the president of the Competition Council.

The competition authority found out during investigations, that from Wirom inititiative, companies made a deal to establish a single price for standard installations. In this context, four companies (Meliorstal, Metalica Prod, miral Instal Company and TMG Conprest) acknowledged the participation in the anti-competition deal and benefited from fines 20% lower.
