Bihor: unit for the production of electricity out of biomass, unique in the country, finalised with European funds

The installation for the production of electricity out of biomass in Sacuieni has become functional by the finalisation of a unique project at the level of public authorities in Romania, developed with European funds by the Association for the intercommunity development (ADI)Ecoland Bihor made up of the Bihor County council, the Sacuieni Townhall and the Diosig hall.

‘Our project is unique in the country. It is the only public authority in the country which implemented this type of project for the production of electricity by putting to value the renewable energy resources – biomass’, stated on Wednesday Stela Babau, the executive manager of ADI Ecoland Bihor.

The project implemented in Sacuieni has a value of 23.6 million lei, out of which 17.3 million lei non-refundable, co-financed through the European Fund for Regional Development on the basis of the financing contract signed with the ministry of economy (ME).The project was implemented on a period of 41 months, between 2013 – 2016.

The installation made by the association in Sacuieni is a complex installation of co-generation which transforms raw material made of green mass (70%) and animal manure (30%) in electricity. The installed power is 548 kw with total annual average consumption of raw material of 12,000 tons.

The raw material will be taken from the area, first animal manure and the corn and rye silos will be acquired from local providers, thus contributing to the strengthening of the local economy.

The production obtained (4 557 Mwh) will get into the national energy system (SEN), the payment will be made by compensation in the first five years since the operation of the installation, and after that the association will receive the value of the production introduced in SEN as well as four green certificates/Mwh which will be traded on the market in the domain.

‘The electricity will be used for street lighting and institution lighting in Sacuieni and Diosig, as well as in the institutions under the supervision of the Bihor County council. The unit will bring benefits to the environment, there are savings for the town budget and there have been created seven work places on the platform’ stated Ioan Mang, the chairman of the ADI Ecoland.

Besides the use of the electricity produced, the other economic and ecological benefits of the project are: the reduction of the carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,260,54 tons per year, the diversification of the production sources of energy and the reduction of the dependence on energy imports, the decongesting of almost 5,440 tons of animal manure from farms as well from the households in the area, as well as the increase of the land cultivated with approximately 126 ha and the use of approximately 8,800 tons silo in the process of biogas production.
