Authorization issued for setting up six new solar farms, biomass-based power plant
The regulatory committee of the National Energy Regulatory Authority approved authorizations at its meeting from Jan. 15 for setting up six new solar farms and a biomass-based power plant, according to a document published on the institution website.
Furthermore, another biomass-based power plant on high-efficiency co-generation was accredited to get green certificates.
The Romanian renewable energy production hit a record level at the end of last year, when the combined capacity of the already existing projects passed 3,757 megawatt, a 60 percent surge from end-2012, show figures supplied by grid Transelectrica.
Thus, in the 11 months of 2013 there were renewable projects installed with a capacity of more than 1,400 MW, which added to 2,335 MW already existing at that date.
Therefore, 2013 remains in the history of the Romanian energy sector the year when most renewable-source electricity projects were installed.
The most spectacular surge was seen by photovoltaic power, which boasted 740 MW worth of projects at end-Nov., a 15 times jump from end-2012, when there where photovoltaic panels of just 49 MW.
The wind farms total 2,459 MW, up from 1,822 MW at end-2012.
Romania also has 505 MW of micro-hydropower stations, up from 405 MW in Dec. 2012, and biomass-based plants totalling 53 MW, up from 40 MW in 2012.
The Romanian Government, on July 1, 2013 decided to delay granting a number of green certificates by 2017 - 2020, in order to slow down the increasing bills. Moreover, the new projects joining the system after Jan. 1, 2014 receive less subsidies from the very beginning.
