3.5 million dollar investment in Black Sea oil terminal

KMG International invested 3.5 million dollars in the Black Sea oil terminal by means of the company Midia Marine Terminal, the company informed on Monday.

“The project has in view to replace the whole flexible crude transfer system from oil tankers to the reservoir park of Petromidia refinery. Capital maintenance works maintain the sea terminal in optimal safety and performance conditions. The investment also maintains a maximum protection level for the maritime environment. Every two years, we invest about 200,000 dollars , 1.4 million dollars every 4 years and 3 million dollars every 8 years, for these works, “ said Ioan Taus, the general manager of Midia Marine Terminal company.

Replacing the flexible hose system involved 6 ships and 20 divers who worked round the clock for 16 days. The project was made with the participation of Rominserv company, the general contractor of KMG International for the supply of hoses and works.

According to a company press release, the flexible hose system of the offshore oil terminal in the Black Sea is made of two rows of rubber hoses reinforced with metal, weighing between 3.5 and 5 tons, provided with a special double case conceived to protect the marine environment in case of accident. This system has two rows of floating hoses 270 m long each and two rows of underwater hoses, guaranteed for pressure of 19 bars. They are built according to international standards and to hydro-weather conditions of the area, 9 km far from Midia Navodari port,” KMG International informs.

The document shows that the life span of the hoses is 2 years for the floating ones and 4 years for underwater hoses and 8 years for transfer hoses.

“The hose system of Midia offshore oil terminal is worth 3 million dollars. Midia Marine Terminal increased its fleet in 2015 and operates with 3 tugboats: Tirreno of 70 tbp for assistance to oil tankers of 150,000 dwt, Bucharest and Astana of 50 tbp, for storm handling, maintenance and works, diving support and assistance for ships in Midia port. The MMT fleet also includes two speed boats”, the press release shows.

Over 23 million tons of crude have been unloaded since 2009 to September 2015 by means of the Black Sea oil terminal and 276 ships were under safe operation. The terminal could stand severe cold and violent storms and was designed to function for at least 25 years.

At present the terminal ensures the crude needed for Petromidia refinery - the largest unit in Romania, which has processed a record quantity of 5 million tons of crude in 2015 reaching the maximum production capacity. With a designed transfer capacity of 24 million tons per year, the oil terminal can receive ships up to 160,000 dwt. Operation through the terminal reduces by 7 dollars/ton crude supply cost. The 100 million dollar investment for the completion of the terminal was recovered in 5 years since its commissioning, KMG shows.

The presence if KazMunayGas is ensured in the geographic arch uniting the Caspian Sea area (Kazakhstan, Georgia) and the Black Sea (Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria) with Western Europe (France and Spain). At European level, KMG International has 1,000 fuel supply units in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Georgia. The group operates two refineries - Petromidia Navodari and Vega Ploiesti.
