Trade: Salmon and mackerel sales grew 5% last year
Sales of salmon and mackerel grew by 5% in 2016 compared to the previous year. They were followed by white cod and hake, according to an analysis made by Romfood Trading, one of the main importers and distributors of fish and seafood in Romania.The company mentions that once VAT dropped, the purchase power has grown and Romanians pay great importance to the quality of fish they buy.
Last year, salmon and mackerel sales were the highest in the Romanian fish market. Salmon sales reached 210 million lei and those of mackerel 157 million lei.
In point of volume, mackerel ranks first, with 31,500 tons bought by Romanian consumers, according to Romfood Trading data.
The importer says that Romanians are careful with what they buy, where fish comes from, they read labels attentively, choose fish cleaned and packed by modern technology, which preserves freshness and nutrients.
Romfood Trading is one of the main importers and distributors of fish and seafood products in Romania.
