Trade: 82% of overall retail sales in Romania recorded in malls. Online continues to grow

Over 80% of total sales in Romania are recorded in malls and we see no problem for which online shops would affect offline trade, said Costin Budeanu, head of the Leasing Retail Division AFI Europe Romania.

“We do not see any threats for malls. We see applications which help online consumers. The only problem I see is how intrusive and aggressive these applications become and  how much they invade the consumer's life and continuously bombard him with advertisements. Thus, a feeling of aversion can develop and the brand is no longer appreciated. The brand cannot control this, only Facebook and other communication channels can,” Budeanu said.

The representative of AFI Europe Romania declared at the same time that the dialogue between retailers and developers becomes more and more transparent.

On the other hand, Venera Munjev, senior associate Colliers International Romania, pointed out the fact that big brands continued to be interested in Romania, choosing to extend to smaller towns.

“We saw big brands which continued to extend to smaller towns, which they did not have in view before. Enthusiasm remained there because figures are good and consumption continued to grow last year. It is clear that smaller towns are interesting for developers. I am glad that those who want to build effectively come and inquire about the options they could have. This year will continue to be an interesting one at least in point of talks, as the interest is focused on development,”Munjev mentioned.
