Tourism : THE CAPACITY OF TOURIST ACCOMMODATION INCREASED BY 5.5% COMPARED TO THE SAME DATE OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR

* Almost 40pct of accommodation places in Romania were, on July 31, 2015, in 3-star hotels which represent more than half (51.1pct) of the hotels countrywide, according to the data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

Over 70% of the hotels were classified with 2 and 3 stars

Out of the total number of hotel places, 39.5% were in 3 star hotels, 31.6% in 2 star hotels, 21.4% in 4 star hotels, 4.3% in 5 star hotels, 2.9% in 1 star hotels and 0.3% in non?classified hotels by stars. Most of the hotels were classified as 3 star hotels (51.1% of the total hotels) and as 2 star hotels (23.7%).

The 5 star hotels were 34 in number (three more compared to July 31, 2014) and the 4 star hotels were 294 in number (27 more compared to July 31, 2014). On July 31, 2015, there were 116 establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation non?classified by stars compared to 120 on the same date of the previous year. Most of them were pre?school and school camps (51.7% of the total in 2015, value similar to 2014).

Out of the1545 hotels serviceable on July 31, 2015, a number of 5 hotels (0.3% of the total hotels), with a total number of 682 places, were not classified by stars. Out of the establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation 32.9% were in other areas, 26.7% in the mountain area, 21.3 % in the Municipality of Bucharest (Tulcea town excluded), 10.1% in the Riviera resorts (Constanta city excluded), 7.0% in the spa resorts and 2.0% in the Delta of the Danube (Tulcea town included).

Bra?ov County concentrated the highest number of establishments of tourist accommodation

The first five counties, ranked by the total number of existing establishments of tourist accommodation were as follows: Bra?ov (886 accommodation establishments), Constan?a (755), Harghita (357), Sibiu (315) and Prahova (314). Constan?a County held the highest weight (26.0%) in the total existing rooms in the establishments of tourist accommodation (the rooms in cottages excluded). Out of the total number of existing tourist accommodation places, Constan?a County held 26.8% and Bra?ov County 8.7%, followed by the Municipality of Bucharest with 6.0%, Prahova with 3.7%, Bihor with 3.6%, Mure? County  with 3.4%, etc.

Hotels had the largest tourist accommodation capacity

Out of the total of 148.1 thousand existing rooms in the establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation in service on July 31, 2015 (the rooms in cottages excluded), 95.4 thousand (64.4%) were in hotels. In 2015, the number of rooms increased by 2173 in tourist boarding houses, by 2170 in agro?turism boarding houses, by 1666 in hotels, by 867 in hostels, by 270 in tourist chalets and by 10 in holiday villages. The number of tourist accommodation places in service on July 31, 2015 was 328.3 thousand.

The most places, 190.3 thousand, were in hotels, followed by agro?turism boarding houses with 35.2 thousand places, tourist boarding houses with 32.1 thousand places, camping sites with 15.0 thousand places and tourist villas with 14.5 thousand places. By the operating mode of the establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation, 76.2% of the total rooms were in permanent establishments of tourist accommodation. The rooms with bath or shower represented 96.4% of the total rooms (the rooms in cottages excluded). In the pre?school and school camps, 56.2% of the rooms were without bath or shower.

Bucharest area and the county seat towns, Tulcea town excluded, offered the greatest number of accommodation places 

  By tourist areas, out of the total number of places, 86.6 thousand in "Bucharest and the county seat towns, Tulcea town excluded", 83.4 thousand were in "Riviera resorts, Constan?a city excluded", 63.4 thousand in "other localities and tourist routes", 55.8 thousand in "mountain resorts", 35.3 thousand in "spas" and 3.9 thousand in the area "Danube Delta, Tulcea town included".
