Tourism : Over 50,000 Romanian tourists travelled to Israel during the first six months of 2023

Tourism to Israel has a significant recovery in the first half of the year and the number of Romanian tourists to Israel has registered an impressive increase of 7% against 2019, informs the ministry of tourism of Israel, in a press release.

According to the official statistic data, in the first six months of the present year, 50,000 Romanian tourists visited Israel, a remarkable figure which reflects the growing attraction of Israel as a preferred touristic destination for the Romanians. This performance is more impressive due to the present context and the recovery period of the touristic industry.

‘As regards the total number of tourists who came to Israel over the last month, we see a significant growth in May 2023, with a total of 376,400 tourists. There is growth against the 249,000 tourists registered in May last year, but it is still low as compared to the pre-Covid period (2019) when there were 439,900 tourists registered’, the authorities in Israel say.

In the top of the countries – source is the US with 443,000 tourists, France with 114,500, Germany with 95,900, the UK with 94,700 and Russia with 88,300.

Israel prepares to receive more tourists both on the short-term rental platforms and through investments on the Ben Gurion airport.

In this context, Airbnb, the rental platform at global level, has become an attractive financial opportunity for the residents of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The Airbnb hosts of the two Israeli cities have made significant income over the last years. In Tel Aviv, for example, an average rented apartment through the platform brought the hosts approximately 15,000 dollars/year. In Jerusalem, the situation is similar, with the hosts who get on average approximately 13,000 dollars/year. Thus, Tel Aviv is fifth in a top of the cities in the world with the highest medium monthly rents on the Airbnb platform and Jerusalem is tenth. These figures come from a study made by the site Compare the Market which analysed the medium monthly cost to rent either an Airbnb apartment or a property in 90 of the most popular touristic points, the press release says.

In parallel, over the next period, there is expected to sue the Ben Gurion airport a number of 2.2 million passengers, up by 4% against the peak season of 2019.

In the most crowded days, an approximately 100,000 passengers use the airport, which operates approximately 600 flights, with an average of taking off or landing at every 2.5 minutes. The airport has prepared to host passengers through massive recruitment and efficiency of the check-in services.
