Tourism: Oradea, in top of tourist destinations in 2022 with over 215,000 visitors
Oradea ranked 7th in top Romanian tourist destinations in 2022, with 215,000 visitors, said Alexandru Chira, general manager of the Association Promoting Tourism in Oradea and Surrounding Area (APTOR), at a press conference.
“2022 was tourism revenge year, after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic. Despite the effects caused by the tourism crisis, Oradea succeeded a good recovery in the last 12 months, 2022 being by 10.4% behind 2019 results. Certainly, 2023 will see a complete recovery, exceeding pre-pandemic results. As for the number of tourists, we had a record in December – 19,954, and 216,000 tourists at the end of the year. Practically, Oradea's population doubled with the tourists who visited us last year,” APTOR representative declared.
In 2022, 10.5% of tourists were foreign tourists. Sources of foreign toruists was dominated by Hungary, Germany and Italy. Top 5 also included Serbia, as a pandemic effect and proximity to Oradea.
The occupancy degree is an important indicator for performances of a destination and for financial results of accommodation units. 2022 had an average occupation degree of 36%, on the rise against 2021, which is still below the highest level of 48% reached in 2019.
Oradea was a finalist for historic areas section in 2022, in “2022 Destination in Romania” initiative. Therefore, Oradea was included in the presentation brochure of the Year Destination at World Travel Market 2022, one of the most important world travel fairs held in London over November 7-9.
