Tourism: One out of five Romanians did not go on vacation in 2013 (Study)
About 22% of Romanians aged over 18 did not go on vacation in 2013, while estimates for this year of the phenomenon are rising, according to a study released by the research company Mercury Research on Thursday.
The study shows that 22% of Romanians did not plan a vacation in 2013, while for 2014 only half of the people interviewed declare they intend to go on holiday in a tourist destination while a third plan a vacation for 2015.
According to the investigation, the most popular tourist destination was Romania for 50% of people interviewed.At a big distance in the top of visited countries we find Italy (13%), Hungary (12%) and Bulgaria (12%). Other countries where the Romanians chose to spend their holidays last year there were Greece, Germany, Austria, Turkey and Spain.
The most used transport variant for international trips were the personal car (52%), followed by travel by plane (47%). For vacations spent in Romania only 8% of Romanian chose to go by plane, while 85% used their personal cars.
In 2014 Romania remains the most important tourist attraction, being the most probable destination for one out of four Romanians who intend to go on a holiday. The list also includes Greece (14%) and Italy (6%).“The Romanians are mostly influenced by previous experiences or their friends’ recommendations in choosing holiday destinations. Over 80% of those who plan to go on holiday this year have not made any reservations and only 7% have fully settled travel details such as transport and accommodation”, the study shows.
The study was made in February 2014 by means of on line interviews in the Mercury Research panel, on a sample of 1,078 respondents aged over 18. The margin of error is +/-3% with a confidence level of 95%.
