Tourism: Mamaia resort, most visited by foreign tourists in 2014

The number of foreigners to visit all inclusive hotels on the Romanian littoral this summer will double, exceeding 10,000 persons coming mainly from Germany, Poland and Israel, according to Mareea, the agency which brings most tourists to seaside resorts. An analysis made by the agency shows that about 5,000 tourists out of a total of 31,000 foreign tourists visiting the littoral chose all inclusive hotels last year.

Most of tourists who preferred all inclusive hotels were Germans, followed by Poles and the most visited resort was Mamaia.“Foreigners generally look for traditional food at Romanian all inclusive hotels. Romanians are attracted mostly by grilled meat,” said the owner of Mareea, Marius Usturoiu who also administers the all inclusive complex Family Club Mercur-Minerva in Mamaia.

More and more owners of all inclusive structures offer tourists menus in English, German and Polish.

For this year Mareea estimates that the number of foreigners in Romanian all inclusive hotels will double compared to 2014, exceeding 10,000 persons.

“Following the promotion made last year in Poland, we have signed contracts and 2,000 tourists will come this summer and half of them are all inclusive. They will come by charter flights to Varna, Bulgaria and will be transferred to our hotels by coach,” said Usturoiu. There will be two charters per week with Poles coming to the Romanian littoral this summer.

The agency also signed contracts with Israeli operators and tourists will fly to Otopeni and then will reach the littoral by coach.

Most all inclusive tourists to come this year will be from Germany.Generally speaking, a foreign tourist accommodated to an all inclusive three star hotel in Romania 500-600 euros, including the airplane ticket.

In 2014 the Romanian littoral could accommodate 6.750 tourists in all inclusive hotels. In 2015 that number grew by 581.

Of the 1.9 million foreign tourists who came to Romania last year, 1.48 millions went to Bucharest and county seats, 132,014 went to the mountain area, 31,325 (1.6% of total) reached the littoral and 13,482 (0.7%) went to the Danube Delta. There were 5,155 Germans, 4,229 Americans, 2,516 French, 2,180 Poles, 1,442 Italians, 1,244 Russians and 895 tourists from Israel who went to the littoral.

Mareea, an agency handling the holidays of over 100,000 Romanian and foreign tourists on the Romanian littoral annually, estimate an increase of at least 10% of tourist traffic on the Black Sea coast in 2015. If holiday vouchers are implemented this year the increase could be 15%.
