Tourism: Greece preferred by Romanians for holidays

Greece remains one of the destinations preferred by Romanians and holidays will continue in a normal way for people who were vaccinated, ANAT (National Association of Travel Agencies) showed in a press release on Friday.

Holidays continue now in Greece, most reservations for the second part of the season being made by vaccinated tourists. Certainly, everybody expected Greece to be on the red list, considering the evolution of the situation, but tourist who got both shots ten days before leaving, must know there will be no problem when they return to Romania and will not have to be quarantined. Upon returning to Romania, children aged under 6 do not need tests and those between 6 and 16 years old will avoid quarantine by presenting a PCR test which can be also made when they return to this country,” said Dumitru Luca, ANAT vicepresident.

The fact is also mentioned that the Romanians' holidays in Greece continue normally, most tourists choosing this destination for beach, relaxation and trips.

ANAT points out that restrictions imposed by the Greek state are normal, minimal measures, such as wearing masks inside or physical distancing rules, with which Romanian tourists have already been used.

The fact that there aren't any large parties and clubs are closed at night do not affect preferences of Romanian tourists too much. For tourists vaccinated with vaccines accepted in EU holidays continue as before. Most tourists who made bookings for Greece are vaccinated as they know they could risk being quarantined when they come back home,”the press release shows.

On the background of the interest shown by tourists, ANAT estimates that Romanians will choose Greece for September too, “the weather being favorable in that period and prices more advantageous.”

At present, thousands of tourists are choosing Greece through travel agencies, the destinations most in demand being continental Greece (Halkidiki, Olympus Riviera, Paralia Katerini) and the islands (Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Santorini, Thassos, Zakynthos).

As of August 1, Greece is on the red list of countries with epidemiological risk for Romania.

According to Decision 52 of the National Committee for Emergency Situations, adopted on July 29, 2021, people who come to Romania from countries in the red zone will not enter quarantine if they have been vaccinated against Covid 19.

Also, children aged under 6 are exempted from quarantine and those between 6 and 16 are exempted if they have a negative test made 72 hours before entering the country.
