The tourists’ overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception increased by 13.0% in June 2017

  • Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, both the arrivals and the overnight stays in the establishments of tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’ accommodation increased by 7.8 % and by 13.0 %, respectively, in June 2017.

  • Compared to June 2016, in June 2017 customs registered an increase in both the arrivals of foreign visitors of 28.0 % and in the departures abroad of the Romanian visitors of 21.8 %.

The number of arrivals registered in the tourist accommodation establishments in the first half of the current year reached 5,056 million, up 12.5 pct over the same period in 2016, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Thursday. 

Of the overall number, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in the accommodation establishments accounted for 76.2 pct in the first six months of this year, while the foreign tourists accounted for 23.8 pct, both figures close to those registered in January 1- June 30 of the year before. 

Most foreign tourists arrived in hospitality facilities from Europe (75.4 pct of all foreign tourists), and of these, 85.1 pct were from EU countries. 

Overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments between January 1 and June 30, 2017 amounted to 10.112 million, up 7.3 pct, as compared to the same period of 2016. 

Romanian tourists accounted for 77.4 pct of the total number of overnight stays at tourist accommodation facilities, while foreign tourists' overnight stays accounted for 22.6%. 

Visitors from Europe accounted for the highest share of foreign tourists' overnight stays (74.6 pct of the total foreign tourists) and of these, visitors from EU countries represented 84.0 percent. 

The average stay between January 1 - May 31, 2017 was 2.0 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists. 

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in the first quarter of 2017 was 25.3 percent overall tourist accommodation establishments, by 0.2 percentage points up as compared to the similar period of 2016. Higher rates of accommodation check-ins in the reporting period were registered in hotels (32.2 pct), ship accommodation facilities (29.9 pct), inns (19.4 pct), tourist villas (18.7 pct) and hostels (18.5 pct). 

Of the total number of foreign tourists who checked in with Romanian tourist accommodation establishments, 139,900 came from Germany; 117,000 from Israel; 109,700 from Italy; ,76,500 from France; and 74,700 from the UK. 

There were 5,553 ml incoming foreign visitors registered at the Romanian border checkpoints in the first six months of the year, up 25.0 percent as compared to the similar period of the year before. 

Most foreign visitors came from European countries (89.9 pct pct), with the EU accounting for 55.4 percent of the total arrivals to Romania. The EU countries providing most visitors were Bulgaria (25.7 percent), Hungary (22.5 percent), Italy (10.2 percent), Germany (8.7 percent), France and the UK (each 5.0 pct). 

Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at borders from January 1 to June 30, 2017 stood at 9.22 million, up 24.4 percent Y-o-Y, with 69 percent thereof using road transport for the trip. 

In June 2017, tourist arrivals in tourist accommodation establishments totalled 1.208 million, up 7.8 pct Y-o-Y. by 10.6 pct and 0.2 pct, respectively. Of the overall number, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in the accommodation establishments accounted for 76.0 pct, while the foreign tourists accounted for 24.0 pct, both figures close to those registered in June 2016. 

Most foreign tourists arrived in hospitality facilities from Europe (74.1 pct of all foreign tourists), and of these, 87.3 pct were from EU countries. 

Overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments in June 2017 amounted to 2.727 million, up 13.0 pct pct, as compared to the same period of 2016. Of the overall number, Romanian tourists overnight stays accounted for 80.1 pct while foreign tourists' overnight stays accounted for 19.9 pct. 

Visitors from Europe accounted for the highest share of foreign tourists' overnight stays (72.4 pct of the total foreign tourists) and of these, visitors from EU countries represented 86.3 percent. 

The average stay in June 2017 was 2.4 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists. 

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in June 2017 was 33.2 pct overall tourist accommodation establishments, up by 1.7 percentage points up as compared to June 2016. Higher rates of accommodation check-ins in June 2017 were registered in hotels (32.2 pct), hostels (24.3 pct), tourist villas (18.7 pct), bungalows (23.2 pct), inns (22.9 pct and tourist chalets (22.3 pct). 

1.264 ml incoming foreign visitors registered at the Romanian border checkpoints in June 2017, up 28.0 percent as compared to June 2016. Most foreign visitors came from European countries (88.7 pct), with the EU accounting for 51.5 percent of the total arrivals to Romania. The EU countries providing most visitors were Bulgaria (22.9 percent), Hungary (24.8 percent), Italy (9.3 percent), Germany (9.6 percent), the UK (5.1 pct) and Poland (4.9 pct). 

Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at borders in June 2017 stood at 1.810 million, up 21.8 percent against June 2016, with 69.8 percent thereof using road transport for the trip.
