Telecom.IT: Study: Software industry business in Romania will reach a record level of 11 billion euros in 2022
The business figure of companies in the software industry in Romania has grown by 14.5% against 2020 and was 246% higher than in 2012, to the record level of about 10 billion euros in 2021, according to Finance Ministry data, a study made by KeysFin analysts shows.
“We estimate the continuation of the uninterrupted growth tendency of the last 10 years and reaching a new historic high this year, of over 11 billion euros, and we chose to release the results of the latest edition of the study on the evolution of software industry before December 1st, as we have seen how software maintains its key role in the development and digitization of economy, turning Romania into a regional hub, with one of the most rapid growth rates of 250% in the last ten years,” said Diana Florescu, economic analyst at KeysFin, one of the most important suppliers of information business solutions in Romania.
In 2021, over 30,000 companies activated in the software industry, 12% more than in 2020 and 112% over the 2012 level. Of them, 29,000 were micro companies, 1.1 thousand small companies, 356 medium companies and 25 large companies.
“According to estimates of the previous edition of the study about the evolution of the local software industry, in 2020 UiPath SRL recorded a business figure increase of about 250 million euros and became the local software market leader, a position it maintained in 2021,” said Diana Florescu, KeysFin economic analyst.
BITDEFENDER SRL ranked second for the first time in history, with a business figure of 220 million euros in 2021, surpassing IBM Romania SRL, which after an annual growth of 1.7% ranked third, with a business figure of 199 million euros in 2021.
The study also shows that the net result recorded by companies in the software industry substantially grew to 1.6 billion euros in 2021, 57% more than in 2020 and over 7 times higher than in 2012. Companies in the software industry also generated 77% of the net result recorded by the whole IT&C sector and over 5% of the net result of all non financial companies in Romania in 2021.
The share of the business figure generated by software companies in Romania in the IT&C sector grew from 36% in 2012 to over 60% in 2021 through the rapid advance of the software component, the growth being 3.5 times compared to the doubling of the business figure in the IT&C sector, compared to 2012. At the level of the overall business figure generated by non-financial companies in Romania, the share of software industry went up from 1.2% in 2012 to about 2.5% in 2021.
