Telecom.IT : Sony Romania: We want 20% of premium tablet market
The management of Sony Romania wants to obtain this year a share of 20% of premium tablets market estimated at 70,000 units, according to Lucian Radulescu, the manager of Sony Romania and Moldova.
The company launched tablet Xperia S, of which Sony intends to sell 3,000 pieces until the end of the year.
“We launched the new tablet both in the classic retail and online. We estimate that until the end of the year we will sell about 3,000 such units and intend to reach a 20% share of premium market,” said Radulescu at a press conference.
The premium tablet market in Romania amounts to 70,000 units, while the overall volume is over 140,000 units, according to Sony data.
The Japanese producer Sony intends to change its business strategy in the next 3 years, focusing on the young, middle class area and the female one.
The new Xperia S tablet is equipped with Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, has a memory of 1GB RAM and a storage space of 16/32GB. The screen of the new device has a size of 9.4 inches and a resolution of 1280x800px. Its camera has a resolution of 8MP.
The starting price of the device is 1,899 lei for the Wi-Fi (16GB) variant and 2,400 lei for the 3G variant. It will sold in the local market starting end of October.
Xperia S runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.1 operation system.
Lucian Radulescu has been working for Sony for 13 years and was in charge of audio-video and TV categories as well as distribution clients.
The main Sony competitors in the tablet market are Apple, Asus, Toshiba and Samsung.
