Telecom.IT : Local gaming market to exceed 20 mln euros in 2012
The local gaming market will exceed 20 million euros in 2012, up 20 percent compared to the previous year, given the increase on the hardware segment (consoles), as well as on games and accessories, according to the estimates made by Flanco electro-IT retail chain.
The gaming segment saw a slightly upward evolution in sales, correlated to the increase of traffic in the Flanco stores, therefore the sales of games have surged by nearly 15 percent in the first 3 months of 2012, compared to the similar period of last year.
According to a release Flanco sent to Agerpres, the Diablo 3 game, expected by tens of millions of gamers worldwide, will arrive in Romania on May 15, at midnight, at the price of 229 lei (51 euros). The fans of the series are expected this night at the Flanco shop from the Afi Cotroceni shopping mall, open till 2 a.m., to test their favourite game and take part in the tombola offering Diablo 3 prizes.
'Diablo 3 is definitely the most anticipated game available in the Flanco network in 2012. The title launched by Blizzard this night will act as a catalyst for the PC games market, on a downward trend in the past few years. We expect Diablo 3 to be a big success and the segment of PC games to reach a market share of 40 percent this year out of the all-in sales of games, in the Flanco stores,' Sales Director Flanco Gabriel Peres said.
The best-selling games of last year, across the Flanco stores, were Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 12, Battlefield 3 with the average price the Romanian consumers invest in a game standing at 150 lei. The company's representatives foresee significant sales for Diablo 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3 and Crysis 3 in 2012.
