Telecom.IT : Ernst & Young survey :Romanian software exports making steady climb during recession
Romanian software exports followed an upward trend during recession, as the total turnover of Romania's IT &C sector increased 8% in 2010 and 2% in 2011, thus bouncing back to the level of 9.4 billion euros recorded in 2008, shows an Ernst & Young survey.
Exports in this field made a steady climb throughout the post-crisis period, going 37% past the mark hit in 2008, while domestic market revenues increased by just a modest 6%.
According to the Ernst & Young survey 'Opportunities and Optimism: how CEOs are Embracing Digital Growth', computer applications define the way people will consume content in the next five years.
Romania thus asserts itself as an increasingly attractive emerging market for software developers, particularly for mobile applications. There are more than 400 Romania-made software solutions in Appstore and an almost similar number in the market dedicated to Android platforms, shows Syscom Digital. The number of applications developed in Romania is constantly growing and by the end of 2012 there will be five times more of them than today.
Whereas on the one hand Romania is an attractive market on the development side, on the other hand, domestic consumption is still relatively low. IT & C representatives have repeatedly stressed that the market needs to be educated, and consumers should get support to adjust to the new technologies and the media consumption trends.
In Romania, Ernst & Young has been a leader on the market of professional services ever since its establishment in 1992.
