President Iohannis: Romanian agriculture must become real source of economic development
In his message to the Farmers' National Conference on Tuesday, President Klaus Iohannis asserted it was vital to turn the Romanian agriculture into a real source of economic development; he maintained that Romania needs more than ever an assumed political position and an integrated vision.
"In my view, the agriculture is a vital field for Romania's development. This is precisely why we have to carefully address its problems and challenges. It is essential to transform the Romanian agriculture into a real source of economic development, by supporting the farmers' performance and revenues," the President's message reads.
Iohannis pointed out the important steps taken by Romania towards the European integration, while the Romanian agriculture and villages saw the least progress, as the leap forward to modernization is still delayed.
"Romania needs, perhaps more than ever, an assumed political position on the agriculture and on its development chances. Romania needs an integrated vision to formulate priorities and development directions. The reforming of farms, the modernization of the rural areas and the release of their economic potential, the intake of European funds and the simplification of the administration are clear directions to take with firm steps. It is not enough to become aware of our huge agricultural potential; we must also make the Romanian farmer an important pillar of Romania's economic architecture," the President declared.
He stressed that Romania has to promote the interests of its agriculture on the European level, as regards the new financial concept of the Common Agricultural Policy and all the aspects potentially beneficial to Romanian farmers.
"I share your vision: authentic performance requires the industrialization of agriculture and the modernization of the rural infrastructure. For a performing agriculture, the cadastral works must be completed quickly. The small farm must stop being only an informal means of social protection; instead, it must generate economic motivation and a reward proportional to the commercial performances," Iohannis mentioned in his message.
