Premium car makes like Lancia, Jaguar, Cadillac and Pontiac feature among the preferences of Romanian drivers in January 2016, reveal statistics of the Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV). According to the cited source, 24 of the 166 expensive cars registered in January were new, with Mini topping the ranking with 11 units, followed by Lexus (6 units), Jaguar and Smart (4 units each), Subaru (3 units), Cadillac, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Citroen DS, Lada, Mercedes-AMG and Rocar (one unit each). 

Alfa Romeo is January's leader on the used car segment with 56 registered units, down 18.84 percent y-o-y. The car makes on the next spots are Mini (45 units, down 18.18 percent y-o-y), Jaguar and Lancia (12 units each), Lexus and Chrysler (7 units each), Cadillac (2) and Pontiac (1). DRPCIV data show that new vehicle registrations in January 2016 advanced 17.39 percent y-o-y to 8,303 units, of which 5,800 cars. Dacia further tops the Romanian drivers' preferences, with 1,887 new units registered in January 2016 (+ 23.49 percent y-o-y), followed by Volkswagen (523 units, + 16.74 percent y-o-y), Skoda (450 units, +1.35 percent y-o-y) and Renault (399 units, + 42.50 percent y-o-y). 

According to DRPCIV statistics, at the end of 2015 Romania's national fleet totaled about 6.6 million units, up 5.27 percent from the 6.27 million registered in the previous year. Of the total vehicles in nationwide traffic at the end of 2015, passenger cars accounted for about 5.15 million units, up 5.04 percent from 4.9 million in 2014. In Bucharest there were 1.19 million vehicles registered at the end of 2015, of which 956,664 cars. 

As far as the vehicles' wear and tear is concerned, about 2.56 million are older than 12 years, down 12.31 percent from the same period of 2014; 1.89 million vehicles are aged between 6 and 10 years, while 1.76 million units are between 11 and 15 years old. About 1.20 million cars were older than 20 years.
