În Romania, parents spend an average of RON 100 per month on children’s toys

Over 70.5 percent of parents in Romania choose to buy toys for their children from both physical and online stores. 

The variety of shops and the many available options are attractive to Romanian parents, but the monthly budget they allocate for children’s toys rarely exceeds RON 100. Only 34.2 percent of parents buy toys for their children worth 100-300 RON a month and only 22.8 percent of them choose not to limit their budget.

Generally, parents are not limited to a number of monthly toys but rely on instinct, and make a purchase whenever they think they have found something fun or educational for their child. 59.1 percent of respondents say they take into account certain trends / concepts when choosing small toys, their current preferences including the Montessori and Waldorf educational toys.

On the opposite side, 51.7 percent said they choose children’s toys based on their functionality. Romanian parents claim that the most important aspect when choosing children’s toys is the quality of the material. 88.3 percent of them claim they are careful that the toys don’t contain toxic substances, phthalates, chlorine, solvents, while only 7.4 percent check whether the toy is an original product of the chosen brand.

Asked whether their child uses a smartphone, 94.6 percent of Romanian parents said they have not bought one yet, as children up to 6-7 years preferr outdoor activities (78.2 percent), followed by those who opt for traditional toys rather than phone or tablet games (38.6 percent).

The information comes from a study conducted by the online store JucariaVesela.ro, on a sample of 398 people.
