Minister Delia Popescu: Rapid implementation of 5G technology and passing to GigaBit are necessary not optional for Romania

The rapid implementation of 5G technology anf passage to GigaBit society is a necessity not an option. Romania must be ambitious to recover the digital difference to other countries, said Delia Popescu, the minister of Communications and Information Society at the Digital Romania International Forum - Industry 4.0.

“The fourth industrial revolution is based on a determining factor - the use of data potential. That supposes that the scientific and industrial sectors and public authorities in Romania used cloud computing more and more in order to have access to European and world infrastructure, essential for their own activities. It is important that Romanians and companies in Romania should have access to data infrastructure and services based on cloud computing because they ensure competitiveness in digital economy. The rapid implementation of 5G and passage to GigaBit society are a necessity, not an option. Romania must recover the digital differences to other countries and should offer its citizens and companies access to top of the art infrastructure to benefit from innovating services and applications and to be competitive. Romania has made special efforts to develop ambitious projects, such as Ro-Net, GovItHub, CyberCrime”, Popescu said.

The minister pointed out that access to data infrastructure should be made in high security conditions, as long as in the context of European Strategy on the Single Digital Market, the Romanians’ collective economic interests are very important.

On the other hand, the official said that Romania will contribute to priorities assumed by the European Commission for the digitalization of the Romanian society and economy.
