 Jan - May car production up by almost 13 pct

Romania's car production over January - May 2022 increased 12.73 percent from the year-ago period to 216,105 units, shows data with the Romanian Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACAROM). Of this total, 131,063 were Dacia cars and 85,042 - Fords.

The car production this May was of 39,822 units - up 11.59 pct YoY. Of this total, 28,713 cars were produced by the Dacia Plant in Mioveni, and 11,109 rolled off the lines of the Craiova-based Ford factory.

According to data with the Driving Licences and Vehicle Registration Directorate cited by ACAROM, as many as 47,645 new cars were registered nationwide over January - May 2022, by 32.92 percent higher compared to 35,845 in the similar period of the year before.

New car registrations this May reached 10,198 units, by 24.05 percent higher compared to May 2021.

Topping the ranking of new cars registered between January - May 2022 is Dacia with 12,616 units, followed by Hyundai (3,921), Ford (3,699), Toyota (3,565), Skoda (3,307), Volkswagen (2,934), Renault (2,788), Peugeot (1,636), Mercedes (1,590) and Kia (1,090).

As for second hand cars registered for the first time in Romania between January - May 2022, their number reached 135,275 units, 19.05 percent down from 167,101 registered in the same period of 2021.

As many as 29,952 second hand cars were registered in May this year, 5.1 percent down from the same month of 2021.
