Infrastructure: Volume of goods loaded/unloaded in Romanian sea ports dropped by 11% in 2020

Goods loaded and unloaded in sea ports totaled 47.22 million tons last year, the total volume of goods marking a drop of 11.1% against 2019, according to data centralized by the National Statistic Institute.Container transport amounted to 643,000 TEU at 2020 level.Ports with the most intense activity in 2020 were: Constanta, with 83.5% share, Midia (9.6%) and Galati (5.1%).

 

In the mentioned period solid loads of 26.981 million tons were transported.

Last year, the most important quantities of goods loaded or unloaded came from Russia (10.674 million tons) and Turkey (7.896 million tons). Of the EU member states, Spain (2.308 million tons) and Greece (1.838 million tons) recorded the highest quantities of goods transported.

The most important quantities of goods loaded were in the categories: farming products, from hunting and silviculture; fish and fishing products (65.3%). For unloads the highest share was for coal and lignite, crude and natural gas (34.6%).

 

The transport on interior shipping ways recorded 30,518 million tons. Overall values recorded a drop of 8.2%, the result of national transport drop by 18.7% and transit transport by 32.9%, while international transport recorded an increase of 18.1%.

Ports where most goods were operated were: Constanta, with a share of 47.5% and Galati with 14.8%. The transport of containers on interior shipping ways recorded an important drop by 31.8% (TEU), against 2019.

 

Goods recorded in international transport on interior shipping ways had as destination or came from EU member states 47.1%. Serbia held the highest share as origin and destination of goods transported with a level of 5.682 million tons.

 

The type of goods for which the most important quantities of goods in international transport on inner shipping channels were recorded in 2020 were farming produce, from hunting and silviculture; fish and fishing products in a proportion of 44.7%. In the same period mainly ores, mining products,63.1% uranium, thorium were transported in national transport and 71% in transit on interior shipping ways.
