Infrastructure: General Transport Master Plan is ready to be approved

The Government is set to approve the General Transport Master Plan this week, following by March 15 to send it to the European Commission and then proceed with the implementation stage, Transport Minister Ioan Rus stated on Tuesday, after his meeting with the members of the Joint Committee on Transportation of the Senate and the Deputies Chamber.

'I presented before the two committees [e.n. - on transportation] the semi-final variant of the Master Plan and they had a few pertinent comments to make, a series of details that we may introduce without the need to affect the basic structure of the law. Next week we are going to approve the document at the government meeting and immediately after send it to Brussels and then proceed with the implementation stage,' specified Rus.

The head of Transportation also appreciated that the current variant of the Master Plan will most probably be sent to the European Commission for approval by March 15.

'We will also discuss at the Government and with the European Commission the annex on implementation. As soon as we will have the approval of the European Commission, we will start working on the final variant,' said Ioan Rus.

In his turn, the head of the Committee on Transportation and Energy, Mihai Fifor, stated that the members of the two parliamentary committees have unanimously shown support for the Master Plan for Transport.

'Today we had a joint meeting of the committees on transportation of the Senate and Deputies Chamber, following our meeting yesterday [Monday - e.n.] in Parliament when we had a preliminary debate. We discussed the General Master Plan on Transport. Today we continued to address questions to Mr. Minister and to his team [...] In the end, the conclusion of the two committees was to support the Master Plan and the steps that the Romanian Government is taking right now in this respect. The members of the committees unanimously voted in favour of an agreement, so that the Romanian Government to be able to proceed with the necessary steps for the Master Plan to become operational as soon as possible,' said the Senator.

He also underscored that the two committee will continue to discuss about the document.

"We will continue to work in the committees including after Minister Rus brings back the document from Brussels. There are so many issues to discuss, technical issues on which we are going to resume discussions, for today we have discussed one strategy, a general framework, whereas there are so many steps still to follow," said Fifor.

The Minister of Transportation, Ioan Rus, on Tuesday presented to the members of the parliamentary Committees on Transportation of the Deputies Chamber and the Senate the final draft of the General Transport Master Plan.
