Infrastructure : European funds for road infrastructure suspended. Restriction may be lifted in September
European funds for road infrastructure allocated through the Sector Operational Program Transports (POS-T) are suspended by the European Commission for checkups about their allocation. At the end of September there will be a new evaluation for a possible unblocking of money. According to data supplied by representatives of the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure the program was suspended a month ago, but at the end of September the ministry will present a list of measures to unblock payments.
Romania has allocations of 5.7 billion euro from EU over 2007-2013.In 2011 1.8 billion euro was received and 1.7 billion euro over 2007-2010.Razvan Cotovelea, secretary of state in the Ministry of European Affairs for Coordination of structural instruments showed on Monday, at a press conference, that Romania has the sectoral operational programme human resources development (POSDRU) in pre-suspension, the Axis for Road Infrastructure in Transports in suspension, as well as the program for economic efficiency increase and expects the decision of the European Commission for the suspension of the environment program, the tender program for conflict of interests. This situation places great pressure on Romania’s budget because payments for end user will continue.Romania may benefit from an EU budget allocation of 40-47 billion euro over 2014-2020, Cotovelea showed.
“We hope for the allocation of 40 -47 billion euro in the following period. At the end of November we will have a European Council to discuss and negotiate the EU budget for 2014-2020, including grants Romania will receive for EU Agricultural Policy and for structural instruments,” the official said.
