In Romania, a quarter of the population suffers from obesity
At least a quarter of Romania's population is affected by obesity, Deputy Dean of the Medicine and Pharmacy University of Targu-Mures, associate professor Dr. Monica Tarcea told Wednesday the Dietitian National Conference titled "Child Obesity - Updates, Prevention and Treatment Perspectives'.
"In Romania, a quarter of the population suffers from obesity, these are the official data, but the percentage is a lot higher, as many people do not report to the doctor, are not diagnosed or are not recorded. The figures are however worrisome, Dr. Tarcea said.
According to the Deputy Dean of UMF Targu Mures, obesity is a condition increasingly frequent among not only adults but also children and youth.
The Romanian Nutrition and Dietetic Association (ARoND), in cooperation with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) Targu-Mures is organising, for four days starting Wednesday, two conferences in the nutrition and diet domain.
One of the conferences is "The 5th Conference of Dietitians with international participation" on "Child Obesity - Updates, Prevention and Treatment Perspectives', Wednesday through Thursday. The second one is the International Conference "'Transdisciplinary Research in Physical Therapy, Physical Activity and Sports Nutrition' (with a focus on nutrition, spa and physical therapy and sports and physical education), on 3 and 4 November, organised in partnership with Ankara Gazi University and the Science and Sport Culture Association. The latter aims to increase knowledge on nutrition for athletes
